You mostly hear abut Trump’s latest “tariff “plan.” Does the WH ever tell the truth about who pays? Is it just a sneaky way to tax us, the consumer, more?  Of course, Trump is not the first to enact this tax.

First, good thoughts about those in the Hill Country of TX.

Trump's attack on Harvard and other research-rich universities in our country is not about antisemitism or what diversity they offer in their curriculum, but about Trump's ego and unrelenting goal to be the supreme tsar.

 Harvard is the greatest university in the world, for good reason, with considerable of competition.. Maybe Trump’s Dad could not buy his son’s way into this Boston area campus like he did others places.

Harvard, and other universities under Trump's ego-flame, are a major source of many revolutionary discoveries and benefits in science and medicine across the spectrum. And at least for now, they constitute many of the most important science foundations in the world.

Ask new graduates with a PhD in science where the best university in the world to seek employment, teaching and research would be—answer, Harvard, for good reason. Then other Ivy League schools. Yes, Rowland, UT is in the larger mix.

Yet, here is Trump. And RFK, Jr (who scares me as much as Trump). 

I hope our country's health doesn't suffer too much. Think about our grandkids.

First: The sky is not falling.

Second:  This is NOT about whether Harvard (or even the Unversity of Texas @ Austin) is a "great" university.  The legal issue is whether Harvard is in compliance with ALL federal laws relating to education standards and students' rights.  

Harvard has all but admitted that it does not adequately protect Jewish students as required by the law.  Harvard is NOT entitled to federal $$s just because it is "great"!  It must comply with ALL congressionally enacted statutes to get the bucks whether or not all humanity will die in the breach.  QED.

It is not about Harvard being great. They are just an example. Of course, they must follow the law. DJT goes after the big ones to gain fame, notoriety--imagine that.

Has Harvard, as an example of a private school, been formally charged, been through due process, etc.?

Harvard brings DJT the publicity he craves: Condemn the most famous, get the headlines.  Ignore the world-class education and research done there. 

DJT's claim that he is defending Israel and Jewish people from prejudice on campus is disingenuous.  He is looking for their $$ and support.

There are none so blind as those who will not see. [Editor's note:  this comment is not related to Bill's recent post on type-size that deals with those who cannot see well.] 

Yes, Dick, Harvard thinks its due process rights, among other things, have been violated by the Trump Administration [TA, henceforth.]  That is why they have sued the TA in federal court. The presiding judge in the case, Allison  Burroughs, a loyal member of Senator Elizabeth Warren's Powwow, can be expected to render a "homer" decision for the university [Editor's note:  when I say "the university", I use lower case because EVERYONE knows that "The University" refers to UT-Austin.]

Now, my humble prediction:  Harvard's case will be undoubtedly appealed to the First Circuit Court of Appeals where the judges' loyalty to their judicial integrity or to "the university" will be a challenge.  I make no prediction regarding their decision because the losing party will certainly appeal to the US Supreme Court.

I do confidently predict that by a decision of no less that 6-3, possibly even 8-1 [Justice Jackson's vote is a lost cause as she is still trying to figure out whether she is the first black woman appointed to the Court, or just the third black person so appointed, as she is unable to define what a "woman" is.] the Court will rule in favor of the TA's position.

The Court's decision will be based on two basic principles of law:

1.  He who pays the piper, in this case the TA, calls the tune.

2.  Beggars, in this case Harvard, in spite of its $53.2 billion endowment, can't be choosers.

Put these two principles together and you should agree that as a private institution, Harvard can teach and do anything it wants, subject to civil and criminal laws.  However, it is NOT entitled to federal funding when its actions and policies conflict with these laws.

While we can speculate on this issue ad infinitum (got to work in a Latin term), why don't we just  wait and see how it all comes out?  Perhaps you will book an appointment with an opthalmologist to help with your vision [see opening observation.]

RFK Jr’s uneducated decision to cut back funding for research on mRNA vaccines places the US, indeed the world, in serious jeopardy.

Junior made this proclamation without providing any scientific evidence for his unfounded claims about the inefficiency of the remarkable vaccines, which were a major breakthrough in scientific research several years ago and have been thoroughly tested for safety and effectiveness.

Even Trump saw this, well, maybe. OK he claimed credit for the vaccination against COVID: As the new mRNA vaccine saved millions of lives around the world. (the early mRNA vaccines were developed in a European lab)

Did some vaccinated people still get sick with COVID? Yes, but the number that ended up in a hospital or expired was greatly reduced by the vaccine.

More comedy to come from Jr? Bet on it.
