Is it enlightening or is it spooky that so many of our deceased class mates are still following us on this web site?

Hello to all of you..You are truly missed!!

I am just an old concrete guy and don’t understand how this works, but why does the government have to pay for funding for the mRNA so Pfizer can make billions of dollars in profit from the vaccines.  If the government is funding the research shouldn’t the profit from the vaccine be a lot less?

Pfizer in 2021 was the clear winner in terms of Covid vaccine profits. In 2021, the company made $36.8 billion from its vaccine, while Moderna made $17.7 billion. That’s profit for one year.

We know what to do – we’re just not doing it

We haven't learned anything. We need clean air in public spaces (especially schools and health settings); proper sick pay; to stop the ridiculous pressure to send infectious children into school; better public information about the benefits of masks and ventilation; use of high-quality masks where appropriate (certainly for people with symptoms, and routinely in healthcare settings and for travel); and vaccines available to anyone who wants one. Affordable tests should also be widely available.

We know what to do to reduce the spread of Covid – we're just not doing any of it.

Kittensarecute

We didn’t learn anything

No, we didn’t learn anything from the Covid pandemic. It was all done through panic. It wasn’t handled right at all, money was wasted, and greedy firms faked the prices to make obscene profits. No medical authority had the faintest clue how to handle it. This must never happen again – separating families, causing misery and sheer panic.

We have had pandemics before and will again. Lessons must be learned from that last fiasco and handled totally differently. People will catch it regardless of what they do; it cannot be avoided. Time for a total rethink from these so-called medical experts.

Long Covid is the main danger

The main danger with Covid is getting long Covid. The science says no one is immune to suffering from it, and it's likely a lifelong chronic condition that could end your ability to work. 3.2 million English people know that is what they are suffering from, and the number goes up every year.

The only defence we really have against Covid now, since most of the vaccines have been withheld, is wearing an FFP2/3 respirator, which is hugely effective at stopping infection. These masks also stop hay fever and most other infections as well. People who have started wearing them haven't been sick in years.

Paul

Covid could be eradicated – but there’s no will

Covid-19 could be eradicated pretty easily in this country with ventilation, investment in proper HEPA infrastructure in all public buildings, a functioning vaccination programme, and – most importantly of all – those who can mask to wear FFP2 or FFP3 respirators when indoors anywhere.

If the government could be bothered to protect our public health, it should lock down the country – properly – for a couple of weeks. With all that in place, it would disappear. There is no will or impetus among our leaders to protect us from this incredibly disabling illness.

Bumblebee

Sooner or later, a vicious strain will emerge

Covid is here to stay. There is growing consensus it probably escaped from a lab, and it will carry on rapidly mutating – picking off the vulnerable and elderly – saving governments a bit of cash, somewhat offset by the cost of Long Covid.

I mask in shops but rarely see anyone else doing so. Sooner or later, a vicious strain will emerge, and we'll be back to square one.

Galileo666

Learn from countries like Japan

We should take the findings of other countries ahead of us into account – e.g. Japan on the spread of the virus – and improve ventilation of buildings, trains and buses... even doctors' waiting rooms in the winter!

Jennifer

Covid is an inconvenient fact

Covid is an inconvenient fact that governments and the right-wing press prefer to suppress. Sadly, it’s still very much around, and it’s still killing the old, the very young and those with a compromised immune system. It’s also leaving a trail of devastation in the shape of long-term damage caused by long Covid.

And all of this relates just to people – there’s also the impact on the economy. Drugs which would have enabled the immunocompromised to live normal lives (hundreds of thousands are still shielding) have been denied by the UK government to cut costs. Drugs like Paxlovid – literally a life-saver for any immunocompromised person unlucky enough to contract Covid – have been made near-impossible to access.

The treatment of immunocompromised people by this government and previous ones is shameful. And to cap it all, there are still plenty of clowns around who somehow feel threatened by anyone taking the sensible precaution of wearing a mask, and feel the need to mock or display outright aggression

Good question Nova.

I wonder if these drug companies have the research capabilities to develop and test these complicated vaccines. I don’t know the answer to that. They do claim some portion of their revenue supports research and development, which is expensive. Especially, as a virus population mutates often resulting in changes of what it does inside cells (often new or resistant disease) and how it replicates. Research on that is not easy or cheap. A costly “cat and mouse game.”

The amount drug companies make is staggering. But if the federal money evaporates, and the drug companies pay more for research and development, what happens to the price of drugs we buy? Basic economics.

And no, I'm not defending the drug companies' thirst for massive profits.

Bill,

Most vaccinees were discovered via research in the EU and USA. I actually have met some of these dedicated, brilliant researchers. Impressive people.

Pfizer operates 11 manufacturing sites and two distribution centers located in nine states across the US.

The largest manufacturing site in the Pfizer network is located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This 1,300 acre facility manufactures active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), drug products (DP) and medical devices.

While vaccine production is global, the majority of vaccines are manufactured in a few key regions, primarily the European Union and India. These regions are followed by China and then the United States in terms of overall production volume. (all via the web)

Who cares where they are produced?  They save lives.

Dick Storey THE RECALL'S ON MEDS' IS UNBELIEVABLE.

EVERY DAY I SEE RECALL'S FOR THIS OR THAT ONE. SOME ALSO STATE IF YOU TAKE THIS OR THAT. IT CAN CAUSE A HEART ATTACK, OR  OTHER PROBLEM'S.

YES I AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT WHERE MEDS ARE MADE. WHAT IS NOT STATED IS  WHERE THE BY-PRODUCT IS FROM.

THE EFFECTS OF THE MEDS'. ( LOOK UP THIS ONE OR TWO FAMOTIDINE (A GENERIC FOR PEPCID. GLYBURIDE 5 MG ANOTHER GENERIC  FOR MICROASE .

I WOULD SAY 99.99%   OF THE ORIGINAL MEDS ARE MADE ???

AFTER I HAD HEART SURGERY, I HAVE LOOKED UP EVERY ONE OF MY MEDS.  WHAT GETS ME IS ONE DOCTOR WILL GIVE YOU  MED. ANOTHER DR. WILL GIVE YOU A DIFFERENT MED. YES THEY ARE FOR THE SAME THING.  JUST TWO DIFFERENT NAMES. DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS.

Hello Bill,

Confusing it is for certain. My primary doc just moved to administration so I have a new one (well new to me). She changed several of my meds. I asked why and she explained (she did act a bit surprised when I asked that).  My deceased mother-in-law always said, "Oh, you can't ask doctors questions."  Wrong.

A reply, for example: I take famotidine, commonly known by the brand name Pepcid (and formerly Zantac 360), which is a medication classified as a histamine H2 receptor antagonist. It blocks histamines from attaching to stomach cells.   Thus, it works by decreasing the amount of acid produced in the stomach. This is one of the drugs my new doc changed. Why? The long-term use of the old one (omeprazole) has been connected to some serious health problems. Good research by ?? (maybe a lab at Harvard or Columbia U., or the mfg.)

So, physicians may change preferences as research comes in and some are more up-to-date than others on some issues. They may have a different drug that does the same thing, or similar, to what a previous doc. had prescribed. Or they have experienced success with the new drug and switch you over. It happens.

Where are drugs made?  No idea specifically. I don't recall the country of origin mentioned on the bottle label. Maybe it is in the paperwork they give you citing side effects, etc. Or perhaps this can be found on the WWW. Your pharmacist might be able to help you. What I mentioned before about the origins of mfg.was from the web.

Good luck with it and hang in there. We're all rooting for you.

What is famotidine used for?

Famotidine is a medication used to treat heartburn, gastritis, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and gastrointestinal ulcers, in both children and adults. Famotidine is available in oral and intravenous formulations and is used as both a prescription and over-the-counter drug. Common brands of famotidine include Pepcid®, Zantac 360®, Act®, Dyspep HB®, Fluxid®.

Why take famotidine at night?

Gastrointestinal reflux is most likely to occur during evening or nighttime hours. Because of this, famotidine may be most effective in controlling reflux when it is taken around the time of an evening meal. For treatment of other gastrointestinal conditions, including duodenal ulcers and esophagitis, famotidine can be taken once or twice daily.

Does famotidine cause cancer?

Currently available evidence suggests that famotidine does not cause cancer. This issue arose after over-the-counter and prescription ranitidine (the previous ingredient of Zantac®) was found to contain a potentially cancer-causing contaminant called NDMA. When this was discovered in 2020, the manufacturing and sale of all ranitidine products was discontinued in the United States. Since NDMA is not present in famotidine, Pepcid® and other products containing famotidine were not affected by this action, and famotidine is still available for sale in the United States. Zantac® now contains famotidine instead of ranitidine.

How much famotidine can I take?

The maximum recommended famotidine dose for adults and children weighing 40 kg (88 pounds) or more who have gastric or duodenal ulcers, GERD, or erosive esophagitis is 40 mg per day. Higher doses are used for treatment of certain gastrointestinal conditions, like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, in adults. If you are planning on giving this medication to a child who weighs less than 40 kg (88 pounds), consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Can you overdose on famotidine?

Famotidine can be toxic when not dosed correctly. Some symptoms of famotidine overdose are headache, dizziness, and constipation.

What are the side effects of famotidine?

Some of the most common side effects of famotidine are headaches, dizziness, constipation, and diarrhea. In older individuals, famotidine may cause neurologic problems including confusion, hallucinations, and agitation. If you experience these symptoms while taking  famotidine, discontinue use of the product and contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Always tell your doctor if you develop chest pain, frequent wheezing with heartburn, unexplained weight loss, or other worrisome symptoms while taking famotidine. If heartburn continues or worsens after 14 days of use, stop using famotidine  and contact your health care provider.

Is famotidine safe in pregnancy?

While the use of famotidine in pregnant women has not been studied extensively, it is generally considered safe to use if medically necessary. Famotidine can pass through breast milk from a mother to her baby, so it should be used with caution in breastfeeding women.

What should I do if someone takes too much famotidine?

If you take too much or experience adverse or unexpected symptoms from famotidine, get guidance from Poison Control immediately. Help from Poison Control is available online at poison.org and by phone at 1-800-222-1222. Both options are free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day.

When RFK Jr warned that COVID 19 originated from a lab leak in Wuhan, China… liberals laughed and called him a conspiracy theorist.

NOW the FBI, CIA and Department of Energy all agree that Covid-19 most likely originated from a Wuhan lab leak…

Once again Kennedy was proven right.

But RFK Jr.'s next WARNING could be far worse for millions of American
s.

The origin of Covid 19 is pointless.  What is the origin of other lethal viruses?

The contagiousness, pervasiveness and lethality of the Covid viruses remain  important. Sure, like most vaccines, some still get sick with the virus—we did.

Most importantly, the vaccine slows and even prevents hospitalization and death from the viral infection. There are volumes of scientific data that support that conclusion.

RFK, Jr is a data-uninformed jester. And a dangerous one at that. His injudiciousness has nothing to do with politics—liberal, conservative, or whatever label you may choose to assign.

Look at the recent CDC shooting. Where did that come from?  On a multiple-choice exam, I’d circle misguided ignorance.

The origin of Covid isn’t pointless.  China created a virus that killed millions of people. Even though China was locking down cities in their country, they were allowing fights to nations throughout the world which speeded up the spread of the virus.  It may just be me but I think that is pretty important.

Nova, my friend,

I doubt scientists in China intentionally created the pernicious coronavirus and released it on purpose to the death of thousands of their countrymen and others. But one never knows for certain.

Still: The origin likely leads to no definitive clues to combating the virus, just like other lethal variants. The molecular biology and mutation of the virus likely holds keys to fighting it, not so much the origin. So, other than politics, what's the point of arguments of the source? Where did polio come from? Marburg and Ebola virus? Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), Rabies, HIV/AIDS, Flu, DFTD, Dengue: Where is the political debate on the origin of these, as examples?

Dick Storey I doubt scientists in China intentionally created the pernicious coronavirus and released it on purpose to the death of thousands of their countrymen and others. But one never knows for certain.

THERE  IS SEVERAL DIFFERENT STORYS ABOUT THE  RELEASE OF THE VIRUS. I.E. SOMEONE STOLE IT FROM THE LAB, IT WAS TESTED ON INDIVIDUALS IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE COUNTRY. THIS PART I BELIEVE. INDIVIDUALS, WERE INFECTED WITH IT AN THEN TRAVELED TO DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE WORLD. SOME TRAVEL BY AIR. SOME BY SHIPMENT, OF ITEMS MADE IN CHINA. ALL IT WOULD TAKE IS TO HAVE A PACKAGES WITH GOODS SENT TO THE U.S.A. (LOOK AT THE NUMBER OF INDIVIDUALS WHO WOULD HANDLE  A PACKAGE.

08/13/25 05:27 PM #8750

Dick Storey

Nova,

I did not intend to imply the origin is not important, just that the origin likely does not provide useful data on the prevention or cure of infection and illnesses.

I agree with Bill: the most likely explanation is that people in the laboratory were infected and spread the nasty virus. Likely the spread was done unknowingly about the serious disease it causes (or maybe I'd just like to think that).

Given that the the dems are still lying to us and expecting us to take what they tell us at face value, I believe the majority of the dems have their own unspoken credo. They tell us the economy is in great shape, when it isn't.  They tell us that crime has decreased drastically, when it hasn't.

They are duped by their own words.  Because they seem to be firm believers in..."If I said it, it must be true."

Dick – I was trying to make two points.

The first point was that China made a virus that killed millions of people.
I also don’t think that they released the virus intentionally, but it was released by lack of safety procedures to keep it in the lab.  If they had been truthful about the virus, maybe a cure could have been found sooner which could have saved millions of people.

My second point was after they knew how dangerous the virus was, they closed travel within their county to slow the spread of the virus.  At the same time, they let people travel to cities throughout the world, which helped spread the virus. Maybe they did not close travel out of China so more countries would have to work on a cure for it.

Trump closed air traffic from China to the US in 2020, which probably slowed the virus but as we all know it didn’t stop it.  I remember reading how the Democrats were against the air traffic closure.

The main reason we had an early Coronavirus vaccine was because of Trumps “Operation warp speed”.  “The experts agree that Operation Warp Speed played a significant role in the development of a potential vaccine”. The average time to get a vaccine approved in the United States is 5 to 10 years.  Because of Warp Speed the covid vaccine was approved in one year.   Just think if it would of taken 5 years.

I am not saying all vaccines should be approved in such a short period of time but am thankful that this one was approved so fast and didn’t have deadly side effects.

I think that if China had been truthful about the virus at the beginning, the world would have had a better chance of controlling the spread of the virus through research and procedures to slow the spread of the virus.

Just my thoughts,
