The FDA has issued a recall of cantaloupes grown by Sofia Produce in Arizona. The melons were sold under the name Trufresh.

The recall includes all sizes of fresh cantaloupes packaged in cardboard containers labeled with the Malichita label, sold between Oct. 16 and Oct. 23. The recall advises consumers to throw away the products.

According to the latest information from the FDA, there have been no reported illnesses to date.

In addition to New Jersey, the cantaloupes were distributed directly to the following states: Arizona, California, Maryland, Tennessee, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas, Florida and Canada. The cantaloupes would have reached consumers through retail produce markets, the recall said.

The cantaloupes also have an individual PLU sticker placed upon each cantaloupe, which has the word “Malichita” written in script in black letters. The bottom of the PLU sticker is black and has the number “4050” prominently displayed with the words “Product of Mexico/produit du Mexique.”

Salmonella can cause severe and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, officials said. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

The FDA advises consumers to take the following actions:

  • Check to see if you have recalled products.
  • Do not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute recalled products.
  • Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.
  • Consumers who are unsure if they have purchased the recalled product are advised to contact their retailer.
  • If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, contact your healthcare provider

Bill – I love all your post, but the golf ones are my favorite.

I have posted a lot of alligator pictures on here in the last couple years.  We don’t see as many as we used to.  I used to get some close up shots, maybe a couple to close, but luckly they left me alone.

My favorite story is when we were golfing at Brunswick Forest golf course.  We were on the tee box when we saw another golfer, that was close to the green, on an adjacent golf hole.  His ball landed about 10’ from a gator laying next to the water.  The guy didn’t see the gator and started walking towards the ball.  We yelled and waved our arms trying to tell him that there was a gator next to his ball.     He walked almost to his ball and the gator jumped up and went into the water.  The golfer saw the gator jump and took off running towards the club house.  We didn’t see him after that, he may have decided that that was enough golf for one day.

Cheryl – friends are the best.  I think Groucho Marx said “A good friend will bail you out of jail after a wild night, a great friend will be sitting next to you saying damn that was fun.”

MUMBAI, INDIA — Twenty-seven variants of eye drops sold at major retailers such as Walmart, CVS, Rite-Aid and Target are being voluntarily recalled after FDA investigators found unsanitary conditions — including reportedly barefoot workers and bogus tests meant to make the products appear safe.

As Patch previously reported in October, federal regulators warned Americans not to use 26 over-the-counter, store-brand eye drop products that they said could lead to eye infections — and partial vision loss or blindness. At the time, regulators did not name the manufacturer.

"Patients who have signs or symptoms of an eye infection after using these products should talk to their health care provider or seek medical care immediately," a recall notice on the FDA's website said.

The initial list of recalled products published Oct. 27 were marketed under the brands CVS Health, Leader (Cardinal Health), Rugby (Cardinal Health), Rite Aid, Target Up & Up and Velocity Pharma.

CVS, Rite Aid and Target removed the products from their store shelves and websites.

On Oct. 30, the FDA updated its recall list to include Equate Hydration PF Lubricant Eye Drop 10 mL sold by Walmart online and in stores. Walmart also removed the product from its shelves, according to the FDA.

Less than a week later, Cardinal Health voluntarily recalled several Leader brand products, including one eye drop product that wasn't on the FDA's initial list of five. Harvard Drug Group also voluntary recalled all lots of two Rugby Laboratories brand eye drops.

On Nov. 10, Bloomberg reported that Kilitch Healthcare India made the eyedrops in a factory in India that was deemed by investigators as unsanitary. Some people were working barefoot in the factory, and others faked test results that made products appear safe, Bloomberg reported. Some samples showed bacteria contamination in filling areas where the products are bottled, according to Bloomberg.

On Wednesday, Kilitch Healthcare India voluntarily recalled 27 products, many of which were included in the initial recall.

"For those patients who use these products, there is a potential risk of eye infections or related harm," the FDA said.

The eye drops are supposed to be sterile, regulators said, and ophthalmic drugs pose a greater risk of harm to people because the drugs are directly applied to the eyes, bypassing some of the body’s natural defenses.

To date, Kilitch Healthcare India has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall, the FDA said.

These products were distributed nationwide to wholesalers, retailers, and via the product distributor, Velocity Pharma, the FDA said.

Consumers should stop using the recalled eye drops and may return them to the place of purchase.

Below is the full list of recalled products, according to the FDA.

Bill - Everytime I check the site you have posted something that either makes me smile or informs me.

My Eye Doctor says if eye drops are not made in the United States do not use them.

Everyone have a great weekend.

So, today I went over to the local Gun shop to get a Colt 9mm handgun for home/personal protection.

When I was ready to pay for the pistol and ammo, the cashier said, “Strip down, facing me.”

Making a mental note to complain to the government about gun control wackos running amok,

I did just as she had instructed.

When the hysterical shrieking and alarms finally subsided

I found out she was referring to how I should place

my credit card in the card reader!

As a senior citizen, I do not get flustered often,

but this time it took me a while to get my pants back on.

I've been asked to shop elsewhere in the future.

They need to make their instructions to seniors

a little more clear.

I still don't think I looked that bad!

I just need to wear underwear more often.
