What a horrible tragedy in Texas!!! sad

He shot kids and others with an AK-47 type long gun. Purchased legally by the (barely) 18-year-old. No mental health problems known—yea, but...............

Lawmakers talking but so far not doing.  Surprised? Wonder what the NRA lobby is saying. RNC,DNC?

Really, arm teachers? Train them and trust it works?  Texas is an open carry, etc state, like so many others. Did that help? What will help? Few think there is one golden solution, but maybe a combination of actions could make a difference.

This from one who lives with his 3rd grader grandson in a small, rural town.

Teaching is a very challenging profession. Isn't it a shame that their resources have to be used constantly to defuse these types of situations rather than put their talents to use developing enlightening lessons Even after the shut down of schools due to COVID, when parents were saying that they did not envy the teaching profession because it was hard to keep their children engaged  in meaningful learning, as soon as schools were opened, parents and students went back to previously disrespectful behavior. God bless the teachers who remain on duty and please acknowledge their worth.

Well, Cheryl certinly knows about teaching and describes the profession very well.

The national news networks are now reporting the shooter had serious mental health problems. Shot his grandmother in the face (she is still alive), told someone he was going to do that and then shoot up a elementary school (or words to that effect).  Do we need better mental heallth care--absolutly. The U.S. sends money all over the world for a number of reasons: why not more on menatal helath here?

From a national news outlet: "Sometimes it takes someone not in politics to point out the insanity that dominates our current political moment.

On Tuesday night -- in the wake of a school shooting in Texas that left 19 children and two adults dead -- that person was Steve Kerr, the head coach of the NBA's Golden State Warriors. He was openly emotional, angry and frustrated.
You should watch his whole statement, but here's the key bit:"
"When are we going to do something? I am tired. I am so tired of getting up here and offering condolences to the devastated families out there. I'm tired of the moments of silence. Enough. ... So I ask you, Mitch McConnell and all of you senators who refuse to do anything about the violence and the school shootings and the supermarkets shootings -- I ask you, are you going to put your own desire for power ahead of the lives of our children and our elderly and our church-goers? Because that's what it looks like. That's what we do every week. I'm fed up. I've had enough. We can't get numb to this. We can't sit here and just read about it and say let's have a moment of silence."

Teva Issues Voluntary Nationwide Recall of One Lot of Anagrelide Capsules, USP 0.5 mg Due to Dissolution Test Failure

Parsippany, NJ. Teva Pharmaceuticals USA has initiated a voluntary nationwide recall of a single lot of Anagrelide Capsules, USP 0.5 mg (Lot number GD01090), to the consumer level in the United States. This voluntary recall was initiated due to dissolution test failure detected during routine stability testing. No other lots are impacted.

Administration of this product with lower dissolution – taking longer to dissolve once ingested -- may result in decreased effectiveness or ineffectiveness of the drug to exert its platelet-reducing effect. Failed dissolution can result in a slower rate and extent of drug release leading to less anagrelide available in the body. For seriously ill patients with elevated platelet counts, less available anagrelide in the body could increase the risk of clotting (blood coagulation), and clotting or bleeding events such as a heart attack or stroke, which could be life threatening. To date, Teva has not received any product quality complaints or adverse event reports, of this nature, for the recalled lot.

In the back of every veteran’s closet, you’re likely to find some old uniforms, dusty caps, a stack of medical, training, and discharge records... maybe a few ribbons or medals. But these are just a few of the typical things that separated or retired service members keep with them. Other things, they’re stuck with forever.

So we compiled a list of the more non-traditional things that veterans carry for life.

  1. An incessant need to roll socks
  2. Bad knees
  3. The misguided idea that ibuprofen and fresh socks will cure any ailment
  4. Tinnitis. ZNNNNNNNNNG.
  5. The ability to sleep anywhere
  6. The plight of not being able to sleep at all
  7. Old combat boots. They’re great for mowing the lawn or a trip to Home Depot.
  8. Fear of tape tests
  9. Issues with authority figures
  10. Back pain
  11. T-shirts from strange events and places they don’t remember going
  12. A woobie that has seen better days.
  13. A swearing problem that is FUBAR
  14. A love/hate relationship with acronyms
  15. Total disdain for PowerPoint
  16. Scars from barracks shenanigans gone awry
  17. A few ugly divorces
  18. A truck they bought after gaining some sense and selling that Camaro they financed at 27% APR
  19. Some weird strip club stories
  20. Sleep apnea
  21. Bad tattoos that seemed like a really good idea at the time
  22. Boxy brown t-shirts that somehow have sweat stains in a different, more gross shade of brown
  23. A deeply stained, never-before-washed coffee mug that they tell everyone is “seasoned”

Heroes

By Jared Jenkins

In war, there are lives risked and lives taken

Men and women give their best to defend what they love

They defend their country

Their honor Their people Some call them soldiers

Others call them heroes

Our veterans have risked their lives for us They have lived through hell and fought with honor

Many have killed And regretted doing soFor every life, there is a soul For every soul, there is a life

For those who have died, we show great appreciation and remembrance

For those who live, along with them live the horrific memories of battle

Some, are memories of defeat, Some, are memories of victory
