Hello Nova,
I feel I owe you a respectful, candid reply.
You are correct in describing most Montana Democrats as distant from the national party, particularly the fame-seeking “squad” in congress and a few other irrational and impracticable politicians. The press gives them far too much TV time leading some to group all democrats in their coterie. The squad is not the Democratic Party.
I don’t think we have yet survived Trump with his starvation for attention and power. For example, the big lie, with the divisiveness it has precipitated and his total resistance to investigating the cataclysmic Jan. 6 insurrection in D.C. Trump still holds the Republican Party hostage with his delusion of a stolen election and the resulting fallout, including the Jan. 6 mutiny.
As an independent, I voted for Biden and Harris but I am not pleased by some of the things that have happened since they took office. Sadly, Harris has been a disappointment thus far. As with any President, Biden is held accountable for some things that he does not or cannot control.
Still, the southern border remains a cataclysm, inflation gut-punches us all and the withdrawal from Afghanistan was ill-conceived and poorly executed—though I am delighted we have our brave American military finally out of that perilous but historically unsolvable conundrum.
Concerning operative southern border solutions: Biden is caught somewhere between the humanitarian questions of Charybdis and the inherent hazard of Scylla. It is catastrophe free of a unifying solution.
Yet, I applaud such initiatives as addressing global warming, protecting our environment, improving international relations, passing the infrastructure bill and requiring multibillion dollar corporations to pay their fair share of taxes.
To life in Montana--my horse is an ATV with John Deer engraved on the side, I never had the taste for chewing tobacco that my old friend Tom Truelove (hello Tom!) enjoyed and the Pony Express is a museum display in Bozeman.
Wouldn’t it fun to sit down together with a glass of whisky and discuss this in person? Bring your fly rod and come to rural MT.
Stay well my friend.
