Dick  - We don’t seem to agree on a lot of things, but I do think RFK Jr. isn’t the best choice to lead the department of health.

John, stay healthy! I just had a total replacement on my right shoulder. After the infection and knee replacement last year, I thought I was through with hospitals, but 80 threw me a curve. Now, I hope we are all through with this stuff.

Only three months left in this year for our classmates who haven't celebrated their 80th birthday as yet ! To the rest of us / Whoo Hoo  - welcome to a new decade - I had fun celebrating with a mother/daughter trip to the TODAY show !

How fun! Yahoo!  My 80th will be coming up in December. Hopefully it will be a healthy era. You look great and I'm hoping for the energy I need to get through the 80s. Then it's on to the 90s. I've still got a lot of living to do. I'm currently exercising to Oldies but Goodies music. 😂😂😂

Nelson – Good luck with the new shoulder.  My doctor says I need to have mine replaced but I told him I would wait as long as I can.  I can still swing a golf club, so I am good.  I do take a few Aleve and put ice on it when it bothers me.  Keep me posted on how your healing process goes.

Outstanding Connie! Nice way to celebrate the big 80. Nelson, I've had shoulder pain now for years and I know how it limits your mobility. I have trouble doing tasks over my head. Can't throw a frisbe without it hurting. Everyone around me tells me to go get them fixed, but so far I haven't done it. I hope you are now finished with all of the side affects and you can get back to dancing! And Bill, I had to basically refuse to go out to dinner on my 80th if they wanted to sing happy birthday in the restaurant. lol. Also wanted to thank you Bill for adding my daughter Alane to our site. It is her 47th heavenly birthday today! Thank you to everyone for all the bd wishes. Good health to you all. JOHN

John – When I had limited mobility as you described, it was a detached bicep tendon plus they did something to my rotator cup.  I had it fixed years ago and it did work well.  It is easier than shoulder replacement, I am sure.  The healing time was about 2 months using an ice machine to keep the swelling down.  I am having problems with bone on bone in one shoulder, which will require shoulder replacement later if I decide to go that route.  If you decide to have it done find the highest rated Dr. in the area.

  1. Trump derangement syndrome.

                 Is this a Sisyphean effort?

  1. Why does Trump want to change the name of the Dept. of Defense to the Dept. of War?

Dept. of Defense to the Dept. of War?

United States Department of War (1789–1947)

The secretary of war, a member of the United States Cabinet, headed the War Department.

The National Security Act of 1947 established the National Military Establishment, later renamed the United States Department of Defense. On the same day this act was signed, Executive Order 9877 assigned primary military functions and responsibilities,[29] with the former War Department split between the Department of the Army and Department of the Air Force.

In the aftermath of World War II, the American government (among others around the world) decided to abandon the word 'War' when referring to the civilian leadership of their military. One vestige of the former nomenclature is the names of the service war colleges: the Army War College, the Naval War College, and the Air War College, which still train U.S. military officers in tacticsoperations and strategies.

The Department of Defense is responsible for providing the military forces needed to deter war and protect the security of our country. The major elements of these forces are the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force, consisting of about 1.3 million men and women on active duty.

Truman. After World War II ended in 1945, Truman orchestrated a broad reorganization of the old War Department — which became the Defense Department in 1949 — to improve efficiency in national security and cohesion among the Army and Navy, which had been under independent government departments.Aug 26, 2025

Bill--thanks for the history review.

But why does Trump want to change the name back to the Dept. of War?

"As Politico pointed out, changing the official name of America’s largest government agency would not be cheap:

It would likely cost billions of dollars to change the names of hundreds of Pentagon agencies, their stationery, emblems, plaques and other signage at the Defense Department, along with bases around the world. The expense could put a serious dent into the administration’s efforts to slash Pentagon spending and waste."

Dick - I think Trump likes to upset the Democrats and this is one of his way to upset them. It seems like every week there is something he says that is going to end the world per the Democrats, yet we are still here.

Department name changes are rare and require congressional approval, although it could happen with the Republicans in charge of the House and Senate.

Friends,

As LBJ used to say, "My fellow Americans...."

We feel so bad about Mr. Kirk. So, so sorry for his wife and two young children that I wanted to send a comment to our group.

And we are so sad for his entire family and large group of friends and followers.

He was so intellegent and articulate. You had to respect that.

His murder was tragic.   What a crying shame as my Dad used to say.

And let's not forget 9/11, ever.

Best wishes as always,

Dick

Cheryl Corazzi (Essex) REFERENCE YOUR MESSAGE TO DICK. BELOW.

Dick. We all need to stop and reflect on these terrible tragedies and pursue our government to do something about the number of weapons that are being allowed in our society.

I WOULD SAY THAT 99.99 PERCENT OF THE WEAPONS BEING USED ARE STOLEN , OR BROUGHT IN TO OUR COUNTRY THRU  DIFFERENT MEANS OR OR STOLEN FROM OWNERS WHO HAVE THEM THRU LEGAL MEANS.

IN CALIFORNIA  A PERSON HAS TO GO THRU A BACK GROUNG CHECK. FINGER PRINTS ETC. IT TAKES SEVERAL MONTHS TO BUY A WEAPON.  THEN A WEAPONS CLASS. ETC. THEIR ARE OTHER FACTORS THAT MAY BE IN VOLVED. THIS HAS BEEN GOING FOR YEARS. JUST A PART OF HISTORY.

YES I AGREE WITH DICKS MESSAGE.   YES GOVERNMENT  NEEDS TO DO SOME THING. THE PROBLEME IS GETTING EVERYONE TO AGREE,. YES I AM  PRO GUN.  PART OF THE PROBLEM IS GETTING INDIVIDUAL TO RE-SPECK  OTHER INDIVIDUALS' NO MATHER WHAT THEIR RACE IS OR  THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN IS.

I LOOK AT IT THIS WAY WE ALL BLEED RED BLOOD, JUST DIFFERENTLY TYPES. YOU MIGHT NEED A BLOOD TRANSFUSION. THE INDIVIDUAL YOU DISAGREE WITH OR DON'T LIKE THEM FOR ANY REASON MIGHT HAVE YOUR  -BLOOD TYPE TO SAVE YOUR LIFE.

HAD TO TEACH MY TROOPS THAT WHEN I WAS IN THE MILITARY.  SOME LEARNED THE HARD WAY

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A federal criminal complaint was filed in U.S. District Court in Charlotte today, charging Decarlos Dejuan Brown Jr., 34, with a federal crime in connection with the fatal attack of Iryna Zarutska on the city’s light rail system. Brown is charged with one count of committing an act causing death on a mass transportation system.

“Iryna Zarutska was a young woman living the American dream — her horrific murder is a direct result of failed soft-on-crime policies that put criminals before innocent people,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “I have directed my attorneys to federally prosecute DeCarlos Brown Jr., a repeat violent offender with a history of violent crime, for murder. We will seek the maximum penalty for this unforgivable act of violence — he will never again see the light of day as a free man.”

“The brutal attack on Iryna Zarutska on the Charlotte Light Rail was a disgraceful act that should never happen in America,” said FBI Director Kash Patel. “The FBI jumped to assist in this investigation immediately to ensure justice is served and the perpetrator is never released from jail to kill again. I want to thank Attorney General Bondi for her pursuit of today’s federal charges, which are the first step toward delivering justice for Iryna and her family – as well as the millions of Americans who deserve to live in our great American cities free from being targeted by violent criminals."

According to allegations in the affidavit filed with the criminal complaint:

On August 22, 2025, at approximately 9:55 p.m., officers with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) responded to a call for service related to an assault that occurred on the Lynx Blue Line light rail in Charlotte. Callers indicated that a woman had been stabbed by a male. Responding officers located the victim inside the rail car. The victim, subsequently identified as Iryna Zarutska, had sustained fatal stab wounds. A pocketknife and other items were collected from the scene.

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage that showed the victim entering the light rail car and sitting down in the row in front of Brown. Approximately four minutes later, Brown pulled a knife from his pocket and unfolded it before striking the victim three times from behind. Following the attack, Brown walked away from the victim. Responding officers located Brown on the light rail platform and he was arrested.

“This brutal attack on an innocent woman simply trying to get to her destination is an attack on the American way of life,” said U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson. “Of course, crimes like this affect the victim the most—Iryna deserves justice, and we will bring justice to her and her family. But crimes like this also affect everyone who relies on mass transportation to get to and from work and go about their daily lives, and federal charges are necessary to protect the public and ensure confidence in our transportation systems.”

If convicted, Brown faces a maximum statutory sentence of life in prison or death. Ultimately, his sentence will be determined by the Court based on the advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.

The FBI is investigating the case with the assistance of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Odulio of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte is prosecuting the case.

The charges against Brown are allegations and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The  Charlotte Light Rail murder was just as tragic. And he used a knife.

The Utah shooter apparently used a common high-powered, bolt-action rifle (30-06?) with a big scope. Who knows how he acquired the rifle? Or the skill to use it. Hopefully, they catch him.

Kirk's family was there when he was shot. Does that choke you up or what?  Who cares about his politics?

And there was a recent school shooting at a high school west the Denver area.
