Something to think about--

Mark Twain: Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whiskey is barely enough.”

Churchill:   “The water was not fit to drink. To make it palatable, we had to add whisky. By diligent effort, I learned to like it.”

Bill, I saw your email. If I have one, my vote is to keep the site going (I know, easy for me to say).

Nova - great lookin' family !  Thanks for posting - fun seeing you & Carole with your great grands !!  That golf course looked rugged ... to bad the pga pro's don't have to play a course like that !!  BTW - a double bogey from your lie in that sand trap was darn good !   Bill - I certainly understand your frustrations as you are doing a lot of work to keep the side open for so very few of us !!

Nova, I had a golf shot like that in a very similar sand trap. I never did get it out. The ball is probably still buried in that trap. I crawled out of the trap and sold my clubs and haven't played since. That was 25 years ago. You have got a beautiful family. Time spent with them is so precious!

Bill, I agree with Dick. My vote is to keep the site open and rest assured, every one of us appreciates the work you do maintaining the site. Keep it my friend.

Nova, that looks to be quite the course. The double bogey out of that sand trap best me. I have not played for two years now and am starting to miss the camaraderie you get with golfing friends.

Rowland, I to support Texas requiring schools to get rid of DEI. This has done much more harm than good.

The reason I do not post much on the site, I have never been a "wordy" person saying only what I believe.

Again, Bill, please keep the site up.

Connie – It was so great seeing the Grandkids and Great Grandkids.  The live about 500 miles away so we don’t see them as often as we should.

The golf course is a great course, when I return to Virginia, I will play it again.

Bill – I do love The Class of 63 but sometimes just read the post and move on.  I will linger a little longer and leave more posts.  Thank you for providing a site to keep in touch.

Cheryl – Thank you for the comments, I do wish I could see all my Grandkids and Great Grandkids more often.  I have 3 in Virginia and two in Texas.  Carole and I hate to fly so it is hard to see them as often as we would like.  Thank goodness they come to see us. Attached is a picture of Barren (Baer) and Braxton (Brax).

I do like to play golf, even though I am not that good, but like being out with friends playing golf.  The people I golf with, are in their 60’s,  are not that much better than me so I win my share.

Dick – That old guy behind the kids is getting older every day.  It is hard to believe that all of us are in our late 70’s.  We have lost so many friends and classmates over the years.

Bob – You must get back on the golf course, it is a great way to spend a few hours with friends.  I try and play twice a week, 9 holes on weekends and 18 holes one day during the week. Playing 9 holes is a great way to end the day.

It'd a great morning to visit the site. Beautiful day in Ventura.

Nova, Baer and Braxton look great as they 4-wheel around to grounds.

I do plan on getting back to golf. First I am starting a new workout routine to get in better shape. Having to lay around for 2 years was no fun. At our age ya gotta do that stretchin.

Hey! Linda and I are planning a Trafalgar vacation to Washington DC, Williamsburg, Gettysburg, and more in June.   This trip does have me excited. Love our history.

To all:  You need to understand that when the "troops" are sleeping past reveille, it is the job of the First Sergeant to arouse and wake them up.  Great job, Bill!

Bob – If you do visit DC you should take a short trip to Air and Space Museum in Chantilly, Virginis by Dulles Airport. A must see if you are in the DC area.

The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center displays thousands of aviation and space artifacts, including the Space Shuttle Discovery, a Blackbird SR-71, and a Concorde, in two large hangars.

Bill-you called for more posts, so here ya go:

KOAT TV website (5/1/2024)

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

Officials at the University of New Mexico say they're frustrated after a campus protest led to unrest.

On Monday night, protestors occupied the school's Student Union Building after a rally. They were arguing against the Israel-Hamas war.

Sixteen people were soon arrested by University of New Mexico Police with the help of New Mexico State Police. Five of those arrested were students attending the school. They are now face charges of public criminal trespassing and wrongful use of public property after request to leave.

Video obtained by KOAT shows protestors writing "Free Palestine" on the walls of the student union building. A broken window on a door to the building was also spotted.

UNM leadership has since sent the following letter to the school community:

"We are communicating with you regarding an incident at our Student Union Building (SUB) that began yesterday evening. What began as protest ended in criminal acts. A group of persons marched across campus in protest, but then entered the UNM SUB and declared their intent to occupy the building until their demands were met. They remained unlawfully in the building past closing time and proceeded to vandalize the building, damaging furniture, walls, and doors, writing graffiti with markers, paint, and chalk, on the walls, on banisters, in bathrooms, and more. Beyond this property damage in the SUB, graffiti was spray-painted across campus. Students who were trying to study in the SUB were verbally harassed. UNM has long served as a place where free speech and the right to engage in peaceful protest have been permitted and protected – but only up to the point where such protest substantially disrupts university operations or crosses the line to criminal acts. We are obliged to ensure that our campus is safe and open to all."

The letter continued to say:

"The takeover of the UNM Student Union Building is not acceptable. The vandalism of the building, a precious gathering place on our campus, is not acceptable. Barricading its doors and blocking its stairs are not acceptable. Intimidating students who are simply trying to study and learn, is not acceptable. Those who occupied the building were not peacefully protesting, they were engaged in criminal activity by entering, remaining in, and damaging the SUB after its closing hours. Those who were in the building past its operating hours were told to vacate the SUB and given time to do so. They were told that failure to comply could result in arrest. Those who did not comply were arrested. Sixteen arrests were made, five of whom were students; we understand that the other 11 were not affiliated with UNM. There is no desire on the University’s part to engage in confrontation, and we had previously allowed protest at our Duck Pond, but disallowed camping in accordance with long standing policy. However, the continued damage being done to the SUB, as shown on the occupiers’ social media, and their continued threat to deny this important facility to the rest of campus unless their demands were met, compelled this carefully considered, difficult choice. We ask that people respect each other’s diverse viewpoints as well as university policies and state laws so that we can all feel safe and welcome here. We will communicate further with campus concerning these events and our path forward."

According to a LoboAlert sent by the university, the student union building was closed Tuesday for repairs. It will reopen on Wednesday.

As for the students involved, school leaders say their punishment will be determined by the dean of students after a complete investigation.

OK, as Dick points out, Bill wants posts for the price of perusing our website.  So here goes:

NEWSFLASH -- Dated later this year.

Donald Trump, lately criminal defendant in multiple venues, former President of the United States, and presumptive nominee of the Republican Party to regain that office, today announed that his choice for running mate and Vice President is Ron De Santis. Governor of Florida.

When asked how he would get around the Constitutional prohibition of Presidential Electors voting for a president and vice-presiden from the same state, Trump stated that he was moving back to his home in Trump Tower in New York City.

Trump pointed out that with the current state of affairs in that state relating to crime, illegal immigration, and the general decline in the standard of living and social services, among others, New York was again in play in presidential politics and certainly winnable by a Republican candidate.

On a more personal side, he noted that his son, Barron would likely be attending NYU in the fall, and would be able to live near, if not at, home close to his mother and father.

Winning his life long home state would be a crown jewel in his hat and all but assure his second term of office in the Electoral College count.

I'll bet few, if none, of you believe any of this ever could happen.  However, when it does, just remember:  You heard it here first!

Rowland Greenwade

This reminds me of the 1960's  Ohio state University .

Universities across the United States, often far-left in their own politics, nonetheless are having to take drastic measures because of anti-Israel rioters who have taken over parts of their campuses, even their buildings, damaging and even destroying facilities.

They've had to threaten to expel, and even have expelled some of those who have most flagrantly broken laws amid their political campaigns against Israel, which largely were prompted by that democracy's decision to send its military to wipe out the terror threat from Hamas terrorists in nearby Gaza.

That decision came from the terrorists' attack on innocent Israeli civilians last Oct. 7, in which some 1,200 were butchered, often in horrific fashion.

Now there's an answer from the extremists in Iran to those expelled students: an offer for free tuition at a university there.

First it was Mohammad Mozni, head of Iran's Shiraz University, who said American students, even faculty, removed from their schools over their support for terrorism could continue their studies at his school.

Then another Iranian school joined the campaign.

Seyed Mahmoud Aghamiri, the dean of Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran, said his school would "accept students who have been expelled from European and American universities for protesting against the actions of the Zionists."

"We have considered scholarship for these students and we fully cover the cost of education, dormitory and accommodation," he claimed.

Rioters in the U.S. have faced expulsion – and hundreds so far have been arrested – for rioting in opposition to Israel.

So far, at least 30 major universities campuses have been torn apart with the riots, to the point some factions are demanding a cancelation of end-of-term exams because of the violent disruptions.

Campuses in Australia, Canada, France, Italy and the United Kingdom also have been disrupted.

So one constitutional expert in the United States, Jonathan Turley, who has testified before Congress multiple times as an expert on legal issues, and even has represented members in court, suggested students who are expelled should go for it.

"Now this could truly be educational. Students protesting on our campuses have been offered free scholarships at Shiraz University in Fars. So, while Northwestern has reached a settlement with protesters to give scholarships to Palestinian students and positions to Palestinian faculty, U.S. protesters can now go to Iran for their education."

He suggested, "This could be the single most transformative educational experience of their lives. Of course, Iran is better known for floggings than free speech.

"Iran is particularly prone to such contradictions like executing homosexuals while denying that there are any homosexuals in Iran or objecting to the treatment of protesters in the West while jailing, beating and killing protesters."

And he noted that vegan meals are not available at protests in Iran, where the government instead ordered the "arrest and killing of writers and artists while holding such fun events as a cartoon competition on the Holocaust."

Then there are that nation's "judicially ordered blindings."

"Where else can you go where a criminal defendant was ordered to be executed by being tied into a burlap bag and thrown down a cliff with sharp rocks?"

And he pointed out, "The good thing is that U.S. students are already covering up their faces. Iranian women have faced arrest for being photographed without hijabs."

He explained, "Just a year studying abroad in Iran is worth a lifetime of education. So Iranian universities are making the ultimate pitch to come for the free education and stay for the free amputations."

commentary at the Gateway Pundit noted, "We should hope that at least some of these students take them up on the offer."

Talking with my sister Bette about the great restaurants we had in Roswell.

Wyles to Greers for hamburger’s and dragging main.

Ginos, I think the name of the pizza resturant down from Greers, for pizza

Chew Den for the best fried chicken, jumbo shrimp, fresh Chinese food.

Mrs. Aris for Mexican food.  Old crooked wood floors, old tables, and the best Mexican food ever.

My neighbor, Mrs Alvaraz for the best home made tamales and green and red chili.

What were your favorite restaurants and food?
