40 Years Later: What Was it Like to Use an IBM PC in 1981?

Forty years ago today—on August 12, 1981—IBM introduced the very first IBM Personal Computer, also known as the IBM PC (Model 5150). It sold well and set standards that are still with us today. Here’s what it was like to buy and use one in the early 1980s

Lynda Clark (Martin)

I was working on the IBM contract in 1981 for a company that built them here in Fresno.

Bill. How is your family doing now. Hope they are all back together soon & doing well.
The cartoons were great today.
Have a great weekend. Our kids live in Rancho Cordova, we are heading up there next weekend.Sure hope the smoke is not to bad by then.My son retired now was a Batallion Chief for Cal Fire for 25 years, he said these are the worst fires since the Oakland fire that he can remember. My friend lost her home in the Paradise Fire last year. It is just so sad to see all this devastation.

Lynda Clark Martin heck, Rancho Cordova, is within 4 miles of me, just depending on their location. During Fires, I worked for the state doing support work between the California National Guard & OES, etc. I loved the pay. Also the Free food 🍲

Lynda Clark Martin, thanks for asking, my son-in-law is not doing that good.  Now My grand son & his Girl Friend have tested posited for the virus and have all the system.

JERRY sorry if I didn't follow your protocol.

smileyTHERE IS NO PROTOCOL, Everyone can post what they think. Just keep it clean, if someone gets offended, they can reply by sending a private message to the person who posted it. All I ask is to keep it clean language.

Everyone has a right to express themself.  This is one of the reasons I posted an area on the home page.

What is going on nowadays, might be ok with some individuals, but not others.

I look at it this way, Your view of things and the View of others. You can agree to Disagree.

I have a friend whose family have this RARE DISEASE

Lexi needs our help, as do THOUSANDS of other children across the globe who are battling this very rare disease.

Mitochondria are the “energy factory” of our body.

Mitochondrial disease is an inherited chronic illness that can be present at birth or develop later in life. Mitochondrial diseases are long-term, and occur when mitochondria fail to produce enough energy for the body to function properly.

Mitochondrial Disease at a glance...

  • There is NO Cure

  • Patients diagnosed with this disease ONLY have a 50% life expectancy to age 10.

    • ONLY 20% chance of reaching the age of 20!

  • MORE children die from Mitochondrial disease than Childhood cancer

  • Every 30 minutes a child is born who will develop a Mitochondrial disorder.

  • Approximately 1 in every 4,300 individuals in the US alone has a mitochondrial disease.

  • Very hard to diagnose or is often misdiagnosed due to various presentations of the
    symptoms.

  • 100,000 people are living with MITO disease in the US alone

Mitochondrial illnesses can cause debilitating physical, developmental, and cognitive disabilities with symptoms including poor growth; loss of muscle coordination; muscle weakness and pain; seizures; vision and/or hearing loss; gastrointestinal issues; learning disabilities; and organ failure. It’s progressive and there is no known cure.
