Did anyone watch the US Open this weekend? DeChambeau drove the ball like no one in history - with acceptable accuracy, his iron play was very good, and his putting was next to excellent.  He did surprise me with his consistency and the calm driving force he presented. Bryson did deserve this US Open.

Bob, I agree, DeChambeau is a great golfer.  It was amazing how much control he has on his drives and iron play.  I wonder if he will be like Jordan Spieth and other young golfers who are being called the next Tiger Woods one year and not making the cut a couple years later.

 On Golf Chanel, they were talking about designing courses so DeChambeau long drives would not be such an advantage.  He is fun to watch but is extremely hyper on the course.   Bill - I need two drives to make one of his.

Connie, I am known as the world's worst putter. So the Doe on the 19th just laughed. 

Bill, 3 years ago I was driving 275 to 300 consistently in the fairway. It was the bad putting for doe that lowered my score.

Nova, with DeChambeau's determination and will to win, he might possibly last longer on top than Jordan, Ricky, and the rest.

And Cheryl, I have always thought that females have the right stuff.

You know I  loved to play golf and I never cared what my score was.  I lived near the Monterey Pennisula and there are beautiful gold courses there. Of course I played twilight, it was  the only way I could afford to. toplay.

 Connie you are right the short game is the most important.  Good putting makes or breaks a game.  I played Friday and made two putts over 25’, of course I missed two under 10’.  Bob, I stated playing golf at age 65 so I never hit a 300 yd drive.  I am happy if I hit a drive 200 yds.  Donald, I do love to play golf also.  I play with and an older group, even though they are all younger than me.  My score is better than some and worse than others.  I agree it isn’t the score, it’s being out in the fresh air with a group of great guys having fun.  I live in the Wilmington, NC area and there are at least 50 coursed within an hour’s drive.  With so many courses they have to keep their rates down.  My favorite course is Cape Fear which is 15 minutes from my house.  It is a very tough course but fun to play.

Nova, my long drives are 200 to 225 until I had to stop playing and have these old arthritic hips replace. Maybe by July I will be playing quietly again. All those courses are similar to the Ventura, Ca area. Lots of courses and low rates. Don has would be like you. He lives in Rosevill and has some very beautiful courses to play.

Bob it pains me to say, but I can't play any more.  My left shoulder needs to be replaced, but other health problems rules out surgery.  So I have two bags of clubs that just set there.  Years ago my son gave me a seven wood.and said it was a club for old men.  Little did he know that it became my favorite and I never used  a 3 or 4 iron again.

I use a cane to wal;k with, but when I go outside there is a 9 iron by the door that I use.  I keep the swing in shape by cuttin down weeds I find in the lawn.

Nova is right.  I miss the guys I used to play with.  We were all football coachs who had been together for over 20 years.  I used get to where one of their drives landed and run over the ball.  Then tell him he sure  had a bad lie.

Seems like you need to start playing team golf. You can play the putt position. Get another couple of guys to play tee shots and green approaches. Of course your score will be only what you took to sink each putt so you could have an 18 occasionally if the green approach guy is any good.

Don, I certainly understand the old guy stuff. Arthritis finally ate up the bones in the hips so I had dual hip replacement Aug 23 after having partial knee replacement Nov 2019. Needless to say, golf quickly went downhill. This next January, I will be visiting my back surgeon and talk about the different opportunities to repair the lower back. Maybe one day I will use the 9 iron for the 15 yard shot and not for using it as a cane while walking.             

Robert, the team golf you describe sounds like fun. One for driver, one for approach shots, and one for a chipper/putter. I will remember this and incorporate that with one of the golf teams I play with.  Probably a year and a half, but never give up.

Don, I do hope the wildfires are not burning in your town. I am sure the air quality is not good.

Well I could putt if someone else picked the ball up out of the hole, but I could drive the cart.

The air is not quite as bad as it was, but it is still not good..  A Dr. said, that he believed over 1500 people over the age of 65 have died from breathing the air.  Caused by the minute particles of ash in the smoke.

I am for enough away from the fires themselves, but there is just so many of them.  Living in Rosevill doesn't help, because the whole city is covered in trees.  If a fire starts here the city will disapear.
